Hi, I’m Katherine!
Creativity runs in my family, and I’ve always been an arts and crafts person. I grew up in a family of women who loved to sew, knit, weave, and quilt. My great-grandma and my mom were both seamstresses for part of their lives, and made clothes for themselves and their family. They even made wedding dresses.
For a while, I thought that the sewing gene had skipped my generation. At least, I thought that until I wanted to make a Halloween costume for myself in middle school. With a lot of help from my mom, and our old Singer sewing machine, I was able to make the costume I designed. After that first sewing project, I was hooked. I made more Halloween costumes, and even my high school prom dress.
Sewing is great for making your own costumes and everyday clothing, and also for being able to alter clothes from Goodwill or the mall that don’t fit quite right (I’m not sure who those clothes are designed to fit…). It’s a great outlet for creativity, and a good way to save money. Plus, you can look different from everyone else… in a good way! Being able to create something that I’ve imagined in my mind is one of the most rewarding activities I can imagine. I hope you’ll find this site helpful!
